Strange Marine Creature
This strange creature was filmed underwater by drillers in the deep ocean. It is called Deepstaria enigmatica. It looks like an underwater dementor.
Cover art by Edward Gorey for John Bellairs’ The Drum, the Doll, and the Zombie (Check out Goreyana for a whole bunch of Gorey illustrations!)
Still on the subject of obscure formative bits of media for I, a Laura: this particular cover for Over Sea Under Stone. Like this version specifically
Every summer I renew my frantic search for the Edward Gorey editions of the John Bellairs’ Johnny Dixon series because I read them in elementary school and the art and stories were FORMATIVE and YOU CANT FUCKING FIND THEM!!!
not that i inherently hate squirrels but they eat our produce and have bred to plague populations while their supposedly natural predators seem to only exclusively eat small toads
your loud, vocal annoyance and disgust towards children is not neutral just because you don’t have/plan on having children. you are still adding to and upholding a culture that allows child abuse to happen. it doesn’t matter if this is your intent or not.
children cannot communicate very well, they don’t know that adults can be wrong, and they don’t understand concepts like abuse. all they know is that they’re hurt and upset, and when this happens their behavior changes. their cries for help are written off, they’re just “crybabies” or “acting out.” abusers know this and use it to their advantage.
simogo retweeted my year walk fanart…carry me away to the land of my forefathers, this life has offered all its sweetness 2 me
Welcome to Derinkuyu, an underground city that once housed up to 20,000 people. In the Cappadocia region, famous for its cave dwellings and underground villages, Derinkuyu stands out for sheer size and complexity. Locals began digging in the 500s BCE. The city consists of over 600 doors, each of which can be closed from the inside. Each floor could be closed off as well. And just to make attacking completely impossible, the entire city was deliberately built without any logic. Its maze-like layout makes navigating the city nightmarish for unfamiliar invaders.
